The Azure Anti-Fraud Team, which is part of the C+E Security Engineering organization, is developing Azure Analytical Threat Detection Engine, a cloud scale service that provides dynamic threat telemetry from hundreds of thousands Azure subscriptions and provides a risk score to activities across Azure. This solution is based on state of the art machine learning techniques aggregating terabytes of information each day. In addition, to machine learning, the team near real time detection strategies identify fraud patterns in Azure usage. The threat intelligence produced is used to combat fraud, abuse and saves Microsoft millions of dollars in capacity and revenue.
We are looking for Senior Software Development Engineers who are passionate about cloud and software development. Security, compliance and fraud are just a few areas that you will be improving as a result of your work on this team. Building out systems that interact with data on a massive scale and manipulating petabytes of data are a routine part of this job.
Big Data Analysis and Development: Create processes for efficient analysis, fusion and management of large data sets. Perform Big Data analytics to check for indicators of fraud, identify normal vs. abnormal system/user behavior and detect anomalies. Develop a fraud analytics toolset, automation and apply machine learning models which decreases Mean-Time to Detection (MTTD) and Mean-Time to Recovery (MTTR) of fraud.
Production of Actionable Intelligence: Parlaying research and data analysis into data insights and actionable threat intelligence reports. Your goal is to identify fraudulent activity and to enhance Azure’s ability to prevent, detect and respond to targeted attacks and determined adversaries. Present regular threat briefings and work with other Azure teams to act on the intelligence and improve detection and defensive strategies. Share threat information and fraud indicators with other groups in Microsoft.
Emerging Fraud Research: Being on the forefront of emerging threats which affect cloud services. This includes research of fraud and abuse of Azure as well as proactive research on methods to protect and detect future attacks. Perform case studies of recent fraud incidents affecting cloud providers and develop prioritized threat scenarios.
Enhance Situational Awareness: Consuming information from real-world fraud incidents and internal investigations to create fraud indicators and patterns. You will seek to determine sources of data while ensuring consistent and efficient collection of intelligence to establish full visibility into actual conditions within Azure cloud environments.
To thrive in this position, you'll need a deep technical understanding of a broad technology set and the ability to learn new information at a rapid pace. Strong technical and communication skills, ability to deal with ambiguity, and high level of creativity and inquisitiveness are a must. Position requirements also include a BS in Computer science or equivalent security experience. Previous experience in data analytics, fraud and machine learning are important, but a desire to take on big challenges and help improve the overall service engineering process is equally vital.
Desired skills include:
7+ experience in software design and development
Architectural design and development of large scale and high-quality data platform preferred
Excellent analytical skills as well as communication skills both verbal and written
Passion for security, strong engineering and development skills required including C#/.NET
Ability to drive technical investigations and prototyping in a fast-paced startup environment
Experience in cloud services or distributed system develop with prior exposure to Big Data technologies is desirable but not required
